I've been slack about updating you on my Summer Essentials progress. Here's item number two (out of the planned five), which I actually finished almost a month ago but just now got around to photographing.
- Pattern: McCall's 5631
- Fabric: "Future-Ella" by Alexander Henry
- Contrast waistband fabric: Kona cotton in Chinese Red
I didn't have enough of the print to make the skirt as wide as it was supposed to be (the hemline of the original pattern is something like ten feet around!), so mine doesn't have as much of a flaired shape. Next time I make one of these, I'll make it wider. But I'm really pleased with my contrast waistband and the overall effect of this skirt. Crazy prints are my weakness, and the pin-up girl factor of this one was too much to resist!
TRENCH COAT UPDATE: As you may recall, I was considering joining the Trench Coat Sew Along. I've decided not to join it, because the timeline of the sew-along calls for participants to have their coats finished by the end of August, and I just don't want to start my coat that soon. However, reading about the sew-along did motivate me to buy the pattern I'll eventually use for my coat:
Indeed, fun print! Those boots! Definitely a conversation-starter and a wonderful skirt to pair with many tops :) And great jacket pattern. I like the streamlined shape and the pattern's potential to work with many seasons.

What a FANTASTIC print! I wouldn't have been able to resist it, either.
