Today's post is a two-in-one, challenge-wise. I've completed my first garment for the Summer Essentials Sew-Along: a colorful short-sleeve top. And here it is:
This is my second version of Simplicity 2614 in the past month (see version #1 here--scroll down to May 23). While I like the first one, it's a little roomier than I would like (my back and shoulders are very narrow), so I cut a smaller size for this one and I like it even better. The bottom front piece and the whole back are cut on the bias, so you can get the garment on and off without buttons or a zipper. I was worried that cutting the smaller size wouldn't give me enough ease for that, but it worked out great. The fabric close-up shows the print a bit more accurately.
And here's the blouse in action as part of Sally's Summer Blackout challenge. I found this skirt at a thrift store a few weeks ago for $3.29. Score! The little flowers on it are hard to see in this picture, but they go very well with the colors on my top.
The same day I thrifted the skirt, I also thrifted a bunch of these large white beads strung on a stretchy band for $1.29. I took it apart, supplemented the big beads with some small white beads from my stash, added a clasp and ta-da: new necklace! There were enough large beads left over for me to make a second necklace, which I'll be putting up for sale soon on my Etsy shop (yes, I'm building an Etsy shop for my jewelry--stay tuned for more details!).
I love this green bag, which is by Nine West and I bought at Kohl's recently.
The shoes (black shoes are allowed per Sal's rules) are from Cinderella of Boston, my favorite source for stylish shoes to fit my tiny feet. :)
Love the top! Cool thrift finds.

I saw this outfit on Sal's site and had to comment on this skirt! Too lovely!!! And I like it paired with the floral top. Perfection! Stop by sometime!
