Last night Adverb and I headed over to Montreal Road for Vietnamese food at Pho Truc and the musical stylings of our pals, Last Chance Runaround.
Spicy rice noodle soup with slices of beef, green onions, cilantro, basil, etc....mmmm, yummy. Also some green peppers that I chomped right into, thinking they were bell peppers but YIKES, OUCH, they weren't. Hot!!!
Sue and Scott entertained the crowd with their own special brand of sweet, poppy tuneage.
One of the highlights of the evening was LCR's rendition of the Tom Jones chestnut, "It's Not Unusual." No, I'm not kidding. Scott's slow, soulful vocals and Sue's lovely, mournful concertina made for a very stirring version of this song (still not kidding). Add to this a mini-mashup with The Smiths' classic "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" (totally not kidding), and LCR made me pretty much forget Tom Jones was ever associated with this song. Truly gorgeous. I wish I had audio to share with you.
Why, yes, that would be my hubby attacking me with chopsticks. Looks like the spicy beef bowl wasn't the only hot dish on the menu! Heh heh.
